Thank you to all who have expressed concern over the health of our bees. As of now they are doing famously. We have yet to see any sign of the colony collapse affecting so many beekeepers. We are, of course, concerned and with our mailbox full of clippings and URL’s reporting the ‘crisis’ in American beekeeping I’m out checking them all more than usual.

More of a concern are the fires, the drought and the Easter freeze. As the spring flow starts I’ll keep this page updated with bee health news.

Update: July. I’m building the honey house and getting to ready to extract the crop. It is a good mix of holly, gallberry, tyty, tupelo and palmetto. We made some beautiful cut comb honey that will soon be on the website. Contact me if you’re interested….its special. Thanks again to all our customers and friends who have expressed concern for our bees, we really appreciate y’all. So far so good.

Update, August. Still working on the honey house, had some engineering issues. All advancing now. The bees are a little hot, see my post on the subject, but still looking pretty good. The honey’s great and will be in the barn any day.

Update: November.  Our first year staying in Georgia has made for some learning experiences.  Small hive beetles have been a big problem and hungry raccoons too. I’m bringing most of the colonies home here to the farm to be able to pamper them for the winter and be ready to build them up fast in the spring.  The maples bloom in the first week of January and I want to be ready.  We still have plenty of honey from Maine and a little from Georgia, including some fancy comb honey ( see the bees and honey category ).  Thanks again to all those who have expressed concern and supported us by buying honey.  You are our people!

Where in south Georgia are you> I keep about 2500 hives in Thomas county. Also, nice picture of Nino’s truck loaded with bees.
